READ Colossians 3:17-23

There is an interesting historical account of the U.S. Calvary attacking a band of Comanche Indians back in the late 1800’s near where we lived in Southern Colorado.  As the Calvary regiment approached the outnumbered band of Comanche warriors, they sounded the attack bugle. Then as Calvary riders neared the fleeing Comanche’s, the retreat bugle was sounded. In a few minutes the attack sound was heard. The U.S. Calvary was confused. They were riding around in circles- advancing and retreating, advancing and retreating. In the meantime, the Comanche band got a way.

Later our Calvary discovered what happened. One of the Comanche scouts had stolen a Cavalry Bugle from an earlier skirmish. He had practiced various bugle tunes before the raid and put them to good use when under attack- attack, retreat, attack, retreat!

I love this story. Not only because it actually happened but because of the great lesson it teaches me: When you are outnumbered, backed into a corner, the odds are against you, don’t give up, get smart. Don’t listen to the defeatist tune sounding in your head, use your head. Try something new. Try something you have thought of before but never did. Don’t let your emotions override your head. Look for options not a place to sit down and die.

PRAY:
God, please help me! I hear all kinds of noise as a man. Help me hear Your vice loud and clear as I seek to walk with You, be a blessing to my family, and a help to my church and community. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
