READ Mark 8:34
Think about the last present someone gave to you. What did you do when they gave it to you? You received it. Your spouse is a special gift from God to you. You must receive her… just like that present.
How do you receive your spouse? It means more than “accepting” her; it means you embrace the God-given differences He’s built into each of you. My sister-in-law says that the very things her husband does that drive her crazy are the very things that attract her to him. Receiving your spouse means remembering that by being joined together as one, you both are a special gift to the other.
Go back to the moment of truth… when you stood before God with your wife and all of the witnesses on your wedding day. There was something there that you liked and loved about your bride. Josh Reavis says, “It’s facts over my feelings.” You won’t always feel in love. Fact: God ordained your marriage covenant.
Receiving your spouse is knowing there is an enemy and the enemy is not your wife. The enemy is Satan. It is a daily choice… just as Jesus told us in Mark 8:34 to deny self.
Maybe there are some days you don’t like your gift? Some days you may not even want your gift? Be careful. What are you saying about the Giver of the gift? He doesn’t give bad gifts. He made you and your spouse and knows what you need.
Thank You, Father, for my precious wife. Help me to make the right choice every day to receive her as Your special gift to me. I need Your help to love, lead, and cherish her. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
