READ Proverbs 22:6
What an honor and privilege God has given us to be a parent to our children. Many wise people have said over the ages that, besides faith in our Lord, there is nothing in life that provides more joy, satisfaction, and blessings than our families. Many have said they regretted spending too much time at work but few express regret about spending time with their children.
Our children are a God-given gift that deserve and require the very best we have to give every minute of every day. Our God never stops loving us, which includes disciplining us when necessary and we are called to do the same for our children. The biggest mistakes we make include:
- Not giving love when they need it (God never fails to love)
- Not giving discipline when called for (God never fails to discipline)
- Not making our children a priority above jobs and money (God warned us about this)
- Not praying with, reading God’s Word with, and not going to church with our children as often as possible, and at least weekly.
Our children follow our lead in growing their faith. When they see our close relationship with God they will strive for the same. Find a church the whole family connects with – that glorifies God and blesses your family and you will see the awesome difference it makes in our children’s lives.
Father God, thank You for the blessings of our children. We pray for wisdom and discernment as fathers. Just as You love us unconditionally, we pray to make sure our children know we give them the same type of love. This means having the courage and faith to say no when appropriate and to discipline them according to Your will. In Jesus Name we pray – Amen!
