READ John 15:13
Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. What a statement! When I read that, I am challenged to the core as a man. Think about servant leadership in your own life, how do you measure up to such a statement?
Servant leadership is more than any man. When a man chooses to lay down his life things change. If we’re not careful as men, we let our EGO (pride) take over. When we do, not matter who we are trying to influence, our impact is, if any, is rejected by those we are seeking to lead. But more importantly, God Himself, rejects us. (James 4:6)
I love how Ken Blanchard, author of Lead Like Jesus, teaches about the EGO. He says that if we’re not careful our own EGO will edge God out. I don’t know about you, but I certainly can’t afford edging God out of any area of my life as a man, husband, and father. I need Him, and so do you. Yet there are moments when I am the one who is on the Throne of my, and I edge God out. If you and I don’t lay down our lives as men we will lord over others in everything by making decisions on our own with a heart motive that seeks to control things. Ultimately, we promote self and limit our influence.
Pride is also exposed in how we make decisions to protect ourselves. Usually this shows up in ways where we are a passively lead and are disengaged with those close to us. When we are passive and disengaged we give little or no direction to those we are over in our family or church, and even at work.
With God’s help, I want to live life as man with an EGO that exalts God only. Instead of a heart full of pride, I want to live humbly before my God and those He has placed under me. I want to be a man who humbly assumes overall responsibility of my wife and children, and those that I have the honor of leading; no matter the case. I want to be filled with the Spirit as I willingly serve the lives in my sphere of influence, especially those in my living room and kitchen. In order to be a leader who exalts God only I must deny myself so that I can pour out my life on behalf of my wife, family, and friends. So be it!
Lord, I understand that in order to be a great leader, I need to be a great follower. I also know that for me to in authority, I must be under authority. God, help me to lay down my life moment by moment for my wife and children to the ends of the earth!
Instead of a heart full of pride, I want to live humbly before my God and those He has placed under me. @Real_Momentum App
