 READ Psalms 14:1-2

Two art critics were standing in front of a masterful display of swirls and colors when one turned to the other and said, “This is an excellent depiction of the struggle between good and evil!”  “Ridiculous!  It’s a beautiful portrayal of the excited devotion of two young lovers” exclaimed the other.  About that time, another man walked up and remarked, “It’s two cupcakes in a blender.”  The two critics promptly laughed him down over his ignorance and lack of vision.  “Just who do you think YOU are and how did you come up with such a silly notion?”  they joked.  “Well . . . I’m the artist.”

It seems amazing that Men will spend time reading books, listening to speakers, and even going to conferences about topics that are geared toward the journey toward “Authentic” manhood; yet they seldom take time to stop long enough to acknowledge the one who designed man, gave him purpose, and sustains his soul.  If men are truly longing to grab hold of what it means to be a Real Man… then it is crucial that they grab hold of the Real Man-maker… God.  It’s time to Man Up and LOOK UP.

Authentic Manhood begins with acknowledging that God reigns as the sovereign Lord over the heart of man.  The Psalmist writes, “The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, they have committed abominable deeds; There is no one who does good. (2) The Lord has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God. “(Psalm 14:1-2, NASB)  Some men declare it with their words, while others declare it with their actions.

Let me challenge you to Man UP and LOOK UP to the God who Created you, who Chooses you, and who Corrects you for His Glory according to his will.

Father God and Sovereign Lord, we look up to you and yield our lives for your glory that you would mold and make us into the men that you have called us to be.  We pray with the Psalmist, “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my rock and my Redeemer.” AMEN
