READ Jeremiah 23:9-32
You got your ears on?
I was called to proclaim the Word of God in my early twenties. I knew that the Word would be offensive to the culture in which I lived. What I did not realize was the same Word would also be offensive to those in most of our churches.
Hearing the Word is a very serious matter. Charles Spurgeon said that, “Life and death and eternity and worlds unknown may hang on the preaching and hearing of one sermon.” I was sitting in a room full of teachers and preachers when I heard Crawford Loritts define preaching as, “A message from God for the people at a moment in history.” I don’t want to miss what God has to say to me, do you?
For me to be in season and out of season every time I hear the Word proclaimed I must respect it’s powerful authority and realize my personal accountability. As the preacher proclaims the message faithfully, I must listen intently with a desire to take the truth and faithfully apply it in my life.
Are you ready for the teaching and preaching of God’s Word?
What are your thoughts on preaching? Do you like to hear the Word proclaimed?
Let me ask a more direct question, do you believe that your pastor will stand with a Word from God for you, your family, and your church this Sunday? Are you expecting God to speak through him to you?
May you and I be prepared to hear the Word of God proclaimed! Let’s start today by preparing to hear the next Word from our pastor by praying for him as he studies to proclaim the message God is laying within him. But, don’t stop there! Pray for yourself so that you are ready to hear God’s message preached.
Lord, thank You for the written Word! May I experience You today as I read the Word. God, use Your Word to expose, encourage, equip, and empower me as a man who seeks to be conformed to the image of Jesus.
I do not want to miss what You would have me to hear. I pray for my pastor as he studies and prays for You to make clear the message he is to proclaim. And by all means, give me a consecrated ear, a cautious mouth, a calm temper, a clean heart, and a contagious spirit as I submit to You and accept the Word that I will hear my preacher proclaim.
For Your Glory and in His Name, Amen.
