READ Psalm 51:4, James 4:7-10, 1 Peter 5:8-9

Indwelling sin does not absolve us of responsibility for our actions. Today, we hear that men who commit adultery do so because it is in their genetic makeup to do so. They were “born that way.” Homosexuals say the same, “they were born that way.” I heard about a kleptomaniac who argued the same thing. So do alcoholics and gamblers.

So, what if scientists do discover an adultery gene, a homosexual gene, an alcohol gene, a gambling gene, and a kleptomania gene?  What could we say then?

Erwin Lutzer said, “They would be right!” Why? Because the Bible says we are all born in sin. We were all born with sinful, perverted desires. Left to ourselves, we would all turn away from God and toward sin. We were all “born that way.”

We have power to make choices. Some choose to play the blame game.  They blame their sin on everything else and everybody else.  We need to say with King David in Psalm 51:4 “Against You, You only, have I sinned, and done this evil thing in Your sight – that you may be found just when you speak, and blameless when You judge.”

Satan wants us to believe two lies:

The First Lie: “Just try my way once and you’ll be satisfied…once will not hurt anything.”

The Second Lie: “Now that you have fallen, there’s no use trying to stand up again, you’re mine!”

Let me encourage you with the Sword of the Spirit:

The Bible says in James 4:7-10 “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hears, you double-minded! Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom.  Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.”

1 Peter 5:8-9 says “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.  Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brothers in the world.”

PRAY:
God, I need You! The enemy is real and relentless in his pursuit of me, my family, and my church. In Jesus Name, help me submit to You. Help me draw near to You. Cleanse me, Oh God! Amen.
