READ Philippians 2:1-4
“Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others” (Philippians 2:1-4).
After 29 years, I still struggle to make good grades in the school of fatherhood, but I am blessed to be surrounded by great examples who have gone before me. I get close enough to their lives to learn from their mistakes and embrace their successes. Faithful ones can be found, but it takes intentionality to discover them. Once you find a fine father (you see it in the fruit from his wife and children), ask permission of him to pray and study together.
Seek first to be loved by your heavenly Father and learn from Him. Then engage earthly fathers who are worth following, and pour into other younger fathers who need you. Staying enrolled in the school of faithful fathering is both fun and frustrating. But with a heart guarded by and healed by your heavenly Father, it’s the greatest job in the world.
Heavenly Father, please grant me wisdom and grace to put You first so that my family may benefit. You are faithful to me in every way and I praise You for that. Put other faithful fathers as models in my life to help my legacy lead my family and neighbors to You, Amen.
