READ Isaiah 41:8-16
On the morning of December 14, 2012, a 20-year-old man entered Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut armed with a rifle. He murdered 20 children and 6 adult staff members before committing suicide. It was later learned he murdered his own mother in her home before driving to the school. Mass shootings in public spaces have become almost commonplace in our national headlines, and unspeakable tragedies like this remind us we live in a troubled world. Where do we turn for peace and protection in a world filled with sin and violence?
Jesus Christ won the victory over sin and death through His crucifixion on the cross, His burial, and His resurrection! The Lord reminds us through the prophet Isaiah in verse 10 that He is present with us and that He is our God. He has given to us the Holy Spirit and has established a covenant relationship with us. We are His children. He is our Father. Romans 8:38-39 reminds us also that “…neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Oh, how He loves us!
When we become discouraged or troubled by the sin and violence in the world around us, let us rejoice (v.16) in The Lord! He is indeed our Redeemer and our Protector! Proverbs 18:10 also reminds us: “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; The righteous runs into it and is safe.”
Father, thank You for Jesus and His victory over sin and death! On this day, I claim Your promise of strength and help in a world filled with sin and violence. Father, You are my strong tower, and I rejoice in You! Amen.
Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. @Real_Momonetum App #realmomentum
