READ Ephesians 5:15-17
We all have 168 hours in a week. We sleep approximately 56 of those hours. That leaves us with 112 hours each week to accomplish what we need to get done. We need to look and see what needs to be done in our life that only we can do and give some time to those things. For example, I am the only one that can be a husband to my wife right now. I am the only dad to my children. No one can walk with God for me. I am the one who God uses to provide for my family. Do you get the picture? We must establish priorities.
We are to walk as “wise” men and “redeem the time.” The greatest enemy we have in accomplishing this may not be something that is evil. In fact, they may be good things that have become the enemy of the best. Your hobby can be a great thing, but if it consumes too much of your time, talent, and treasure it becomes a bad thing. Technology is a wonderful tool, but if we can’t spend quality time with our children and our wife because we are “thumbing” a phone or a tablet it becomes a bad thing.
So are you redeeming the time? What do you need to reevaluate? What distraction do you need to defeat, in order to be all God wants you to be? Think of yourself as an athlete trying to get in tip top shape. Look at the discipline they carry out to become the best they can be. Why don’t you take some time and develop a vision of what you want your family to look like, among other things and identify what distracts you from that. Then work on putting it to death, while putting into place the things that will make it happen.
Dear God, Help me to have a vision for what you want for me and my family to look like. Show me the areas where I am distracted, and help me change, in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
