READ Psalm 51:17

He wrestled with his sin for many days. He was involved in a two week revival and God had convicted him of a habitual sin.

He had an alcohol problem, but he had been hiding it from his wife for 15 years. He worked early in the morning and got off early in the afternoon, she worked till late at night. They wouldn’t see each other for most of the week. He would pick up liquor on the way home, drink till he was satisfied and then be in bed before she got home.

He was afraid of the consequence of telling her. He was afraid that she wouldn’t understand. He was prideful still holding to the fact that he could just fix the problem himself and that she didn’t need to know. It was the next to last night of revival when he finally broke and confessed to his wife his secret sin.

Her response was incredible, instead of blowing up, slapping his face, or threatening with divorce, she wrapped him up, granted forgiveness and promised to walk with him through this problem. He was relieved by broken before the Lord and open before his wife.

God will not turn you away, no matter what you have done, when you have a broken spirit. God will resist a man of pride, because a prideful man doesn’t think he needs God. Yet, a broken man realizes his absolute need for God. A man of pride carries his shame and guilt around like a 900 pound gorilla, but a broken man is free of all shame and guilt because of grace. You too can be set free from your secret sin if you will be broken before God.

PRAY: Pray like David prayed after he had committed adultery and murder,

Psalm 32:1-5 (HCSB)
1 How joyful is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered!
2 How joyful is the man the LORD does not charge with sin and in whose spirit is no deceit!
3 When I kept silent, my bones became brittle from my groaning all day long.
4 For day and night Your hand was heavy on me; my strength was drained as in the summer’s heat. Selah
5 Then I acknowledged my sin to You and did not conceal my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,” and You took away the guilt of my sin. Selah
